New Music on the Way!

Hi Friends,

Me and the boys have been hard at it getting settled back into performing in Austin. It’s been a long year and a half since we were derailed by COVID. In the meantime, I have been hard at work with a few things. For one, my brother, sister and I have spent a ton of time reopening our family farm in Dobson, NC. It’s a 130 year-old cattle, tobacco and produce farm on the land that my great-great grandfather purchased in 1891. You can find more info about what we are doing there by clicking here: Dock Southern Farms.

In addition to a lot of trial and error with the farm stuff, I have worked on something I know a lot more about: Music. In fact, back in August I went into Welcome to 1979 in Nashville, TN and recorded 5 new songs. They are a bit of a departure from my older recordings (think Dwight Yoakam, cow-punk, rockabilly fun), but I can honestly say it’s the best music I have ever made. They will initially be released only on streaming platforms with a new single appearing every 2-3 months. The first one is called “Lonesome Heart” and will be released on April 1st! It’s a happy little murder ballad in the bluegrass tradition that was written with my brother Jack Marion, my producer John Shaw and perennial collaborator Goose Gossett. Everything we cut was recorded to 2” tape and mastered to 3/8” tape. I have always wanted to record direct to tape and finally got the chance to do it with this project. Mark your calendars for April 1st and be sure to give “Lonesome Heart” a listen wherever you stream music.

I’m off to play downtown Austin tonight. Check the calendar, I’m all over the place the next few weeks. I’ll be in several places around Austin as well as Houston. Come out to a show and say hello!

Thanks for stopping by. Go Bengals.
